Support for Fatih Altaylı at Galatasaray High School

At the Traditional Winter Pilaf Day organized by the Galatasaray Association, a banner featuring photographs of imprisoned journalist Fatih Altaylı and Remzi Sanver, who was arrested as part of the Can Holding investigation, drew attention. The banner included the following lines from Tevfik Fikret's poem "I Expect No Grace from Anyone": "A bowed head is heavier on my neck than a yoke; I am a poet free in thought, free in wisdom, free in conscience."

Beneath the banner, a photograph of Elif Akın, one of the 16 TİP students arrested during the MESEM protest, was also displayed.

The banner featured the words, "A bowed head is heavier on my neck than a yoke; I am a poet free in thought, free in wisdom, free in conscience."

Tevfik Fikret also served as the principal of Galatasaray High School between 1908 and 1910.

Following Altaylı's arrest, his classmates from Galatasaray High School issued a statement reacting to the decision, which included the following remarks:

“We are deeply saddened by what our classmate from Galatasaray High School, the esteemed journalist and commentator Fatih Altaylı, has experienced. However, our primary concern is that in the year 2025, in the 21st century, in our beautiful country which should possess libertarian values, we feel that we are being dragged into a dark era due to the detention, referral to the prosecutor's office and court, and the arrest of a journalist for words that contain no element of threat.”
