Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan commented on the cancellation of some concerts in Europe for world-renowned pianist Fazıl Say due to his social media posts regarding Palestine, stating, “This censorship, this ban is a medal for Fazıl Say.”
Ahmet Hakan wrote the following on his social media account:
“They have banned Fazıl Say’s concerts in Europe. Why? Because he said ‘Long live Hamas’? No. Because he said things like ‘Innocent civilians should not die, Gaza should not be bombed, a ceasefire should be declared.’ This censorship, this ban… is a medal for Fazıl Say. A medal of conscience. A medal of humanity. A medal of compassion. I used to like these artists, now I like them even more.”
