Support for joint candidate proposal from former People's Alliance partner: 'A third way is possible'

Following IYI Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu's call to opposition parties for a "joint presidential candidate," support has also come from the New Welfare Party (YRP). While Dervişoğlu's remarks on Sözcü TV resonated within the opposition front, the statement from the YRP asserted that "a candidate other than the AKP and CHP is possible."

"A JOINT CANDIDATE IS ESSENTIAL TO GET RID OF THE SYSTEM"

Responding to questions from journalist Özlem Gürses on Sözcü TV, IYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu emphasized that opposition parties must act together for Turkey to rid itself of the current Presidential Government System.

Stating, "I have signaled to opposition parties to act in unison against this system," Dervişoğlu used the following expressions:

"We are obliged to unite on a joint presidential candidate to get rid of the system. But we also need a strong parliament for the system to function correctly."

"A THIRD WAY IS POSSIBLE"

Another figure supporting this move by the IYI Party leader was New Welfare Party Deputy Chairman Doğan Bekin. Appearing before cameras following the party's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, Bekin stated that they view the idea of a joint candidate positively.

The YRP's statement included the following remarks:

"We find it extremely important and correct that all parties that do not support the AKP or CHP candidate are in search of a joint presidential candidate. We also have contact with political parties. It is possible to field a candidate other than the AKP and CHP candidates. A third way is possible, and it is possible to form an alliance around a third candidate."

In the continuation of the statement, it was emphasized that the opposition must provide new hope to society:

"It is possible to show that there is hope, to show that there is a light. All of the mentioned political parties are obligated to put a third alternative before society, outside of the two main currents."
