Ekrem İmamoğlu supported New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan's reaction to the fitra amount announced by the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), stating, "Those who came to power in the past with the 'tea and simit' calculation are now completely disconnected from the people and indifferent to the state of the nation."

The statement made by İmamoğlu on his social media account is as follows:

Mr. Erbakan has laid bare the pitiful situation the government has reduced our nation to with a very simple calculation.

Those who came to power in the past with the 'tea and simit' calculation are now completely disconnected from the people and indifferent to the state of the nation.

The system they have established serves only those who profit from interest, rent-seekers, and various illegal structures. I know that our nation is eagerly awaiting the day this dark order will end, the day of the ballot box.

We will never give up fighting for our nation, together with our nation.

We will certainly establish a just order.

When justice arrives, misery will end, and our nation will attain prosperity. Our belief and determination are higher than ever; we will surely succeed.

Fatih Erbakan had made the following statement:

"Diyanet has determined the 2026 fitra amount: 240 liras. The iftar for a family of 4, at 240 liras per person, is 960 liras. 960 liras for suhoor as well, that makes 1,920 liras per day. Since Ramadan is 30 days, the monthly cost for iftar and suhoor is 57,600 liras. This does not include rent, electricity, water, natural gas, transportation, or the child's stationery and clothing. It is just olives, cheese, bread, pita, dates, eggs; or whatever is on the table."
