Suspect wanted for child sexual abuse wounds police officer in Esenyurt

A suspect named M.Ö., who had abducted two children into a car in Sultangazi, was driving toward Esenyurt when one of the children, Y.K.O., managed to escape when the car stopped. The child went to a police station and reported the situation. Acting on the allegation, public security teams identified the suspect's home and raided the residence.

Teams from the Esenyurt Public Security Bureau went to the suspect's residence on 670th Street in the Yenikent neighborhood to arrest M.Ö., who was wanted on charges of "sexual abuse."

HE SHOT THE CHILD HE HAD ABDUCTED AND THEN HIMSELF

The teams, which had taken extensive security measures in the area, launched an operation on the house where the suspect was located. It was learned that during the operation, the suspect M.Ö. first shot 14-year-old I.S.Y., whom he was holding at the address, in the head, and then shot himself in the head with the same weapon.

It was reported that the police officer N.Y., the child named I.S.Y., and the suspect M.Ö. were taken to the hospital with serious injuries and that all three are in critical condition.

It was learned that the police officer, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the initial intervention by medical teams, is in life-threatening condition.

In a written statement issued by the Istanbul Police Department, it was stated that an operation was carried out by special operations teams at the specified address to apprehend M.Ö.

The statement included the following remarks:

“On 01.12.2024, the Istanbul Police Department determined that a sexual abuse suspect was located at an address in the Yalıkent neighborhood of Esenyurt district. When officers arrived at the address to apprehend the individual, the suspect, identified as M.Ö. (22), opened fire on the duty officers. Police officer N.Y. was wounded by the gunfire and was transported to the hospital. An operation was carried out at the address by special operations units to apprehend the suspect M.Ö. As the special operations units entered the address, the suspect shot the 14-year-old male child, I.S.Y., in the head, wounding him, and then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head. The situation was brought under control by the officers, and the suspect and the male child were transported to the hospital, where it was understood that their lives remain in danger. Upon reviewing the records of the suspect M.Ö., it was determined that he had one record at a mental health and diseases hospital, and one unlicensed pistol and one blank-firing pistol were seized during the search of the address.
