An attack that took place in front of the municipal building in the Salihli district of Manisa has caused a major stir in the district. In the incident that occurred yesterday morning, the municipality's security booth, the personnel working at the building entrance, and a stray animal located there were targeted. The individual involved in the attack was apprehended following the intervention of security guards and police teams, and an investigation into the incident has been launched.

In a statement made by municipal officials following the incident, it was stated: "An unacceptable attack took place yesterday morning targeting our municipality's security booth, the area where our personnel were on duty, and a dear animal friend standing in front of the door. The attacker was neutralized through the intervention of our security guards and law enforcement officers, and a judicial process has been initiated regarding the incident. As a municipality, we stand with our security personnel, our colleagues, and the harmed animal. Necessary veterinary checks, reports, and legal applications are being carried out. It is also thought-provoking that the person identified as the perpetrator of the incident is a public official. For this reason, we will also take the necessary steps to initiate an administrative investigation before the relevant institutions.

Without falling for any provocations and without targeting any belief, identity, or political view, we clearly state: Attacks on public institutions cannot be legitimized through political symbols, hate speech, and violence. We have seen once again today how the unfair, targeting, and marginalizing language that has been maintained for a long time against the Republican People's Party (CHP), CHP-run municipalities, and CHP citizens creates a dangerous polarization in society. The mentality that demonizes municipalities providing public services and the workers serving in these municipalities unfortunately creates a climate that feeds anger, aggression, and provocation in some segments of society. For this reason, we do not see this attack as merely an isolated incident. We believe that it should be investigated in all its aspects, including its background, the attacker's purpose, and any elements that may have directed, encouraged, or emboldened them. What our country needs is not anger but common sense; not polarization but the will to live together. As Salihli Municipality, we will continue to protect the peace of our people, the safety of our personnel, and the right to life of all living beings. We will follow this attack to the end, both legally and administratively."

It was learned that the attacker, who was caught after the incident, worked as a religious official at a mosque. The suspect, who was determined to have made various hand gestures during the attack, was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. The fact that the suspect, who was arrested and sent to prison by the court, is a public official has also brought the administrative dimension of the incident to the agenda.

Officials announced that the veterinary and judicial processes for the security personnel and the stray animal harmed in the incident are ongoing. Salihli Municipality reiterated that the attack will be investigated from all angles and that legal processes will be pursued with determination.
