It was stated that the suspect, who was taken into custody on allegations of damaging the Atatürk statue in the Akyazı district of Sakarya with a sledgehammer, was arrested following the completion of legal procedures.
The police procedures for the suspect identified as Y.U., who allegedly damaged the Atatürk statue located on Necati Temel Street in the Ömercikler neighborhood yesterday with a sledgehammer, have been completed. It was reported that the suspect, who was then referred to the courthouse, was arrested by the duty magistrate following the prosecutor's interrogation.
Following the incident, Akyazı Municipality teams cordoned off the area around the damaged statue and began repair work.
