Suspect who insulted Atatürk on social media arrested: Found to have 21 criminal records

A suspect who insulted Atatürk and religious values on social media has been arrested. It was learned that the individual had 21 criminal records and was being sought as a missing person.

An individual identified as having insulted Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and martyrs, as well as disparaging religious values in a video shared on social media, has been taken into custody.

As a result of the efforts initiated by the Istanbul Police Department's Preventive Services Branch teams on December 27, A.B., who filmed the video and was found to have 21 criminal records and to be sought as a missing person, was arrested yesterday in Beyoğlu.

It was determined that A.B. committed the crimes of "insulting Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk," "insulting the memory of a person," "insulting martyrs," "disparaging religious values," and "disparaging and insulting the values of Turkish society" in the video, and the processing of the suspect at the Istanbul Police Department is ongoing.
