Suspect who stabbed university student has been captured

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that the person who stabbed a university student in Kağıthane has been captured. 

Minister of Interior Yerlikaya noted in a post on his social media account that the Istanbul Police Department examined footage of the incident and that the perpetrator, M.H., was captured following 5 months of technical surveillance and investigations, which also included the evaluation of tips received.

Congratulating the police teams who carried out the operation, Minister Yerlikaya stated, "I once again extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery to our daughter A.Z. We will never tolerate those who disturb the peace of our noble nation, those who commit violence against women, those who threaten the lives of innocent people, and criminal groups. We are determined to capture these individuals and deliver them to justice."


WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In the incident that occurred in Kağıthane Merkez Neighborhood last December around 00:30, 20-year-old A.Z., a second-year student in the Department of Statistics at Marmara University, was subjected to a knife attack by a man who ran up behind her while she was visiting childhood friends who had recently moved to the district in the evening. Following the incident, the attacker fled after wrapping the knife in a napkin and discarding it at the scene. The young woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A.Z. had frozen her school enrollment due to fear.
