Suspicious death in a hotel room in Antalya: Chemical substances found nearby

The incident, which occurred in the morning hours at a hotel in the Akkuyu neighborhood of Konyaaltı, was discovered during a routine check by hotel staff. Orhan Akyol, who had arrived in the city from Ankara for a vacation about a week ago, had checked into a suite at the hotel. Staff, who had last seen Akyol two days prior, encountered a "Do Not Disturb" sign on his door.

After the checkout time had passed, staff members knocked on the door repeatedly but received no response. Upon entering the room, they found Akyol lying motionless and immediately reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Police and medical teams arrived at the hotel shortly after, confirming that Orhan Akyol had passed away. Due to the nature of the incident, the Antalya Police Department's Homicide Bureau and Crime Scene Investigation teams were also involved in the efforts.

The scene alarmed the teams; two substances, one liquid and one solid, were found in separate containers next to Akyol. Security measures were heightened due to the possibility that the substances were chemical. The AFAD CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Threats) team conducted measurements in the room while wearing oxygen tanks and masks.

Analysis conducted by AFAD revealed that the liquid in the container was a heptadecafluorooctanesulfonic acid solution. The other substance in solid form was placed in an evidence bag for detailed examination and secured.

Following the completion of all procedures by the prosecutor's office and crime scene investigation teams, Orhan Akyol's body was transported to the morgue of the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of death.
