Swimmer Bengisu Avcı breaks world record!

Avcı became the world champion and won the gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley at the 6th IISA Ice Swimming World Championship, while also setting a world record. The athlete from İzmir outperformed all her rivals at the championship held in Molveno, Italy, with a time of 2:52.77, finishing approximately five seconds ahead of the runner-up, German swimmer Sarahanne Richter. This time was officially recorded as the 200-meter Individual Medley Ice Swimming World Championship 25-29 Age Group World Record.

İrem Damar and Deniz Kayadelen from our country also competed in the Ice Swimming World Championship, where 754 athletes from 48 countries participated. Deniz Kayadelen became the champion in the 35-39 age group 500-meter event and secured third place in the 100-meter freestyle. Our athletes' series continue at the major event in Molveno. The Ice Swimming World Championship is held in a pool with a water temperature of approximately zero degrees. The ice covering the water is broken and removed from the pool shortly before the races, and the athletes swim in this water.

Bengisu Avcı is considered among the best athletes in the world in the Ice Swimming World Championship, which is also described as a battle of the human body's endurance. Bengisu Avcı, who also holds the title of the first Turkish woman to complete five stages of the Oceans Seven, set a world record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the IWSA Ice Swimming World Championship last year, and demonstrated her dominance by winning three gold medals in the 100-meter freestyle, breaststroke, and 4x50-meter relay at the IISA Ice Swimming European Championship.
