Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan has issued a statement regarding the investigation into the hotel fire in Kartalkaya.

In a post on his X account, Özcan said, "The pain of our nation remains profound due to the tragedy in Kartalkaya. Everyone is currently awaiting the results of the investigation in Bolu. However, I say with regret that an impartial, fair, and objective investigation is not being conducted here." he said.

'THE MINISTER AND THE BUREAUCRATS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNMENT ARE BEING SHIELDED'

Özcan  outlined his suspicions regarding the shortcomings of the investigation with the following points:

"According to laws and regulations, not a single statement has been taken from any official, whether general or local, from the Ministry of Tourism, which is responsible for the oversight of the tourism-certified hotel that burned down.

Not a single question was asked to the Provincial Special Administration officials, who the Minister himself admitted had issued the construction and occupancy permits for the hotel that burned down.

Not a single question was asked to the representatives of the private firm authorized by the Ministry to conduct all types of inspections, including fire safety, or to the insurance company that provided fire insurance for this building.

The investigation being conducted here is being directed at the fire department personnel, who had no responsibility other than trying to extinguish the fire, while the minister and the bureaucrats appointed by the government are being shielded. I remind the authorities on this blessed day: 'Take fair steps today so that you do not feel ashamed or suffer a guilty conscience tomorrow.'"
