Tax expert Ozan Bingöl: 16 out of 20 cigarettes go to taxes

Tax expert Ozan Bingöl stated that 16 out of 20 cigarettes go to taxes. In his calculation, Bingöl noted that 80.66 percent of a pack of cigarettes sold for 80 TL goes to taxes.

With the most recent price hikes, the prices of cigarettes in the JTI and Esse groups have reached up to 90 TL. Tax expert Ozan Bingöl calculated how much of a pack of cigarettes goes to taxes.

According to Bingöl's calculations, 80.66 percent of a pack of cigarettes sold for 80 TL consists of taxes. This means that 64 lira and 52 kuruş of the 80 TL paid by the consumer goes to the state as SCT (Special Consumption Tax) and VAT.

Bingöl also stated that 16 out of 20 cigarettes go entirely to taxes, noting that the share for the manufacturer, distributor, and retailer is only 19.35 percent.
