MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli responded in an interview with the Türkgün newspaper to claims, which AKP member Şamil Tayyar alleged were made by terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, that "a coup would occur within the MHP if the process is not successful." Bahçeli made the following assessment regarding the claims that "if a terror-free Turkey is not successful, the mechanics of a coup will be activated":
"A coup is supposedly going to be staged against me from within the MHP. I honestly smiled when I thought about how a coup plotter could emerge from the democracy-loving Nationalist-Idealist Movement. Slander and accusations cannot turn us from our path. All of these are nonsense."
IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM AKP'S TAYYAR
Following these remarks by Bahçeli, all eyes turned to Şamil Tayyar, who made a statement via his X account.
Tayyar used the following expressions:
"MHP leader Bahçeli spoke to Türkgün Newspaper. He calls the claim attributed to Öcalan by DEM's Gülistan Koçyiğit, that 'if the process fails, the mechanics of a coup will be activated,' 'nonsense.' In other words, he does not take Öcalan's claim seriously. Furthermore, he is reacting to the Barzani show and the statements of PKK member Bese Hozat. I do not know what those who ignore the provocations rising from the terrorist organization will do in the face of this move by Devlet Bey, but I hope they learn a lesson. Let me add this final sentence: It is clear that Öcalan, who has been in prison for 27 years and cannot break free from the socialist jargon of the Cold War era and the molds of old Turkey, cannot grasp the day and the future. Or, in his own mind, he is making veiled threats. Ultimately, he hit a wall. He can think about the rest himself."
