TBMM takes action after CHP group meeting crisis! Letter sent to all parties

Following the CHP Group Meeting held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on Tuesday, June 9, the TBMM Security Coordination Board issued a new visitor reminder to all political parties that have a parliamentary group. The letter emphasized the necessity of acting in accordance with the capacity of each hall to prevent overcrowding and potential disturbances during group meetings.

The letter, signed by the board chairman and MHP Gaziantep Deputy Sermet Atay, pointed out that attention was being drawn once again to the previously determined maximum visitor numbers. The capacities for various halls in the Assembly were listed as follows: 817 people for the Senate Hall Ground Floor, 390 people for the Senate Hall Balcony Floor, 630 people for the Large Group Meeting Hall, and 352 people for the Small Group Meeting Hall.

Another element highlighted in the letter was that the maximum number of people determined includes deputies and staff. Furthermore, it was stated that visitors attending group meetings must be registered through the system and are required to wear badges marked "Group Meeting Entry Card."

The capacity of the Large Group Hall, where the CHP holds its group meetings, is limited to 630 people.

ABSOLUTE NULLITY AND GROUP MEETING CRISIS IN CHP

While debates over "absolute nullity" continue within the CHP, a group meeting crisis occurred last week. Elected Chairman Özgür Özel and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the head of the party by a court decision, had both announced they would hold group meetings at the TBMM.

Both factions submitted different visitor requests to the TBMM Speaker's Office. While Özgür Özel's team wanted to organize an attendance of approximately 4,000 people, the Kılıçdaroğlu side provided the names of approximately 1,000 visitors. This situation brought the two groups face-to-face in front of the TBMM and led to rising tensions from time to time.

However, Kılıçdaroğlu withdrew from the meeting at the last minute, and only Özgür Özel took the podium. Due to security concerns, the TBMM Speaker's Office banned all visitors on the day of the group meeting, opening the hall doors only to deputies and staff.
