Teachers' union files criminal complaint against Minister Tekin

Statements made by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin during a school opening in Erzurum have drawn reactions from private sector teachers. Tekin's remarks, "They cannot become teachers because they do not pass the exam. They go and open under-the-counter courses," caused significant discomfort among teachers. Following these remarks, the Private Sector Teachers' Union filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

In the criminal complaint petition, it was stated that Minister Tekin's remarks targeted teachers and damaged the reputation of the profession, alleging that the crimes of insult and hate speech were committed. The union requested that an investigation be launched into Minister Tekin for abuse of office.

In a written statement issued by the union, it was emphasized that Minister Tekin's words humiliated teachers in the eyes of the public and that this situation is unacceptable. The statement said, "The responsibility of the Ministry of National Education is to inspect such institutions and apply the necessary sanctions. However, Minister Tekin is trying to absolve himself by shifting the responsibility onto teachers."

No official statement has yet been made by the Ministry of National Education or Minister Yusuf Tekin regarding the criminal complaint filed by the Private Sector Teachers' Union.
