The incident occurred on the evening of January 31, 2024, in a two-story adobe house in the Uluırmak neighborhood of the central Meram district. According to the information obtained, A.E.A., who lived as a tenant on the ground floor of the adobe house, sprayed the apartment to kill insects and then left the house after taping the windows and doors. After the smell of the pesticide leaked into the apartment on the second floor where N.D. lived, N.D.'s daughter and grandchildren were affected by the fumes. The next morning, N.D.'s daughter A.T. (40) and her children F.T. (18) and Y.T. (15), along with her nieces and nephews S.G.B. (21) and M.B. (17), went to the hospital complaining of nausea, while grandmother N.D. and 8-year-old Ahmet Enes Temel remained at home. After a while, when grandmother N.D. noticed that her grandson Ahmet Enes Temel was unresponsive, she reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Ahmet Enes Temel, who was taken to Konya Numune Hospital after the initial intervention by medical teams dispatched to the address, could not be saved and lost his life. Following the incident, the Syrian national tenant A.E.A. and the person who sold the pesticide, A.E.M. (32), were taken into custody. In his statement, the tenant A.E.A. said that he bought the pesticide for 800 liras from A.E.M., whom he met on social media, that he also had him spray the house, and that he went to a relative's house with his children after being warned to 'not stay in the house for 3 days.' The suspects were arrested by the court they were brought before.
2 to 15 years of imprisonment requested
While the investigation conducted by the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed, the prepared indictment requests a prison sentence of 2 to 15 years for the 2 detained suspects for the crime of 'causing the death of one person and the injury of more than one person through negligence.' The indictment stated that the suspects did not show the necessary care and attention, that A.E.A. tightly closed the doors and windows after the house was sprayed, that the toxic gases formed in the house leaked into the apartment of N.D. on the upper floor, and that Ahmet Enes and the other people in the house were poisoned due to these leaking gases.
On the other hand, according to the toxicology report included in the indictment, zinc and aluminum substances were found in the blood and stomach of little Ahmet Enes, and it was determined that the 8-year-old child died as a result of poisoning from the pesticide containing aluminum and zinc.
