Tension in the Turkish Parliament! Budget talks interrupted: 'Of course you would laugh'

Tension flared between AKP and CHP deputies at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, where budget talks are ongoing. Following prolonged verbal arguments, the session was adjourned for 15 minutes.

Tension arose between AKP and CHP deputies during the budget discussions for the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Ministry of National Education.

Speaking on behalf of the CHP, Muğla Deputy Gizem Özcan addressed the issue of femicides in her speech. Özcan stated, "142 women have lost their lives in work-related homicides."

Turning to the AKP group after her remarks, Özcan said, "Of course you would laugh."

AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin claimed that Özcan was speaking incorrectly and requested that Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gülizar Biçer Karaca intervene.

AKP LEFT THE ASSEMBLY

Following this, applause and shouts of protest rose from the AKP group. Verbal arguments and shouting matches occurred in the General Assembly. Subsequently, the AKP left the General Assembly.

After the 15-minute break in the session, AKP deputies gathered in front of the podium to stage a protest.
