The New Welfare Party has referred MKYK member Abdurrahman Akyüz to the High Disciplinary Board due to his statement that "we must support Murat Kurum."
The following statement was issued by the party:
"Our MKYK member Abdurrahman Akyüz has been referred to the High Disciplinary Board for making statements in an interview with Anadolu Agency that disregard party discipline, exceed the limits of his duties and authority, and are inconsistent with our party's line.
Our New Welfare Party continues on its path in the Milli Görüş line today just as it did yesterday, and our party's candidate for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor is Mehmet Altınöz. Our Istanbul organizations are continuing their struggle shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Altınöz to restart the era of Milli Görüş Municipalism in Istanbul."
In his statement, Abdurrahman Akyüz had said, "Necmettin Erbakan would, of course, have followed a path to ensure the People's Alliance candidate wins in Istanbul. We must support Murat Kurum in some way.
Kurum says, 'We are also students of teacher Erbakan.' I would not be surprised if our Chairman Fatih Erbakan announces such a decision at the last minute."
