Tension over CHP convention indictment: Legal expert Gültekin: Nedim Şener, don't make me angry, you don't understand what you're reading

Following the completion of the investigation into the Republican People's Party's (CHP) 38th Ordinary Convention, an indictment regarding the convention has been prepared. A tense moment occurred during a television program where the indictment in question was being discussed.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed its investigation into the 38th Ordinary Convention of the Republican People's Party (CHP), held on November 4-5, 2023, and prepared an indictment.

The indictment seeks prison sentences ranging from 1 to 3 years for 12 individuals, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his post as Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) following his arrest as part of a corruption investigation, and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay.

The indictment in question was discussed on a program aired on Ekoltv. While legal expert Dr. Ruşen Gültekin, who was expressing his views on the matter, stated that the indictment should be returned, a brief moment of tension occurred between him and Nedim Şener, who was also in the studio.

Reacting to Nedim Şener's defense of the indictment, Gültekin made the following remarks:

Don't make me angry, you don't understand what you're reading; I'm telling you to show me the evidence...

Nedim Şener: You will see it in the annexes of the file!

An indictment is not like that! This is not an indictment, it's a slanderous document...

It mentions Ekrem İmamoğlu; show me the individualized act of the suspect İmamoğlu... These allegations must be clearly stated in the indictment in question.

I am definitely expecting this indictment to be returned; if we do not see in the indictment which defendant made these statements, this indictment cannot be valid...

As we have been discussing in the press, the prosecutor's office has written it but has not provided evidence, and therefore the indictment remains baseless...

There must be proof of the bribe that Ekrem İmamoğlu is alleged to have given!

The indictment is left without a foundation!
