A life-or-death struggle unfolded during a fire in a 3-story building in Ankara. During the blaze, an 8-year-old child was trapped on the balcony. The child, identified as A.E.D., managed to survive by protecting himself with wet cloths. The young child was rescued by firefighters dispatched to the scene.

A fire broke out around 09:30 on the top floor of a 3-story building located on Reşat Nuri Street in the Ayrancı neighborhood of Çankaya.
The fire, which allegedly started from a candle lit in the kitchen by 8-year-old K.Ö.D., grew rapidly. During the fire in the 3-story building, a child was trapped in the flames.
The mother, H.D., and her young child, A.E.D., who were in the duplex apartment, were rescued by Murat Kocaay, a worker performing renovations on the roof of the adjacent building.
Kocaay was unable to reach the other child on the upper floor of the duplex due to the flames.
At that moment, A.E.D. managed to escape the flames by moving onto the balcony.
PROTECTED HIMSELF WITH WET CLOTHS
The child experienced fear and panic while on the balcony.
Bystanders threw wet cloths to A.E.D. to protect him from the flames.
A.E.D. tried to protect himself from the nearby flames by pouring water on himself and using the wet cloths.
Murat Kocaay also climbed onto the roof of the burning building but could not rescue the child due to the flames.
Meanwhile, fire crews were dispatched to the address.
THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR A CHECK-UP
While the crews intervened in the flames, they also launched an operation to rescue the child.
A.E.D. was rescued using the fire department's ladder truck.
The mother and her children were taken to the hospital by ambulance for a check-up.
The fire was extinguished in approximately 1 hour through the efforts of the fire crews.
