Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK) President Bendevi Palandöken made statements regarding Mother's Day. In his statement, Palandöken touched upon the spending made on Mother's Day and noted that expenditures have increased by 500 percent in 3 years.
Pointing out that Mother's Day sees the highest volume of shopping among special occasions, Palandöken said, "Shopping done to please our mothers, who are the most important and precious beings in our lives, both brings a smile to our mothers' faces and provides a great contribution to our tradesmen and the national economy.
On this special day, the vast majority of spending is done with cards. Mother's Day shopping brought a turnover of 25 billion lira to the tradesmen community last year. With the rise in costs, it is projected that the turnover expectation will double this year. It is not the value of the gift, but thinking of our mother that is more important than anything else. On behalf of the tradesmen and craftsmen community, I celebrate the Mother's Day of our mothers, who are the crown of our heads."
"THERE IS A 500 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE LAST 3 YEARS"
Stating that Mother's Day spending has increased significantly in the last 3 years, Palandöken said, "While the spending by our citizens on Mother's Day in 2021 ranged between 100 and 200 TL, it is now averaging one thousand lira. Globally, this figure is around 200 dollars. Besides these days having an important place in seeing our mothers' happiness, they have a great contribution to the economy.
Mother's Day is one of the important days when our tradesmen, especially jewelers, florists, accessory shops, clothing stores, white goods and glassware shops, pastry shops, and taxi drivers can do business. While making their mothers happy, our citizens should prefer local brands and our tradesmen in terms of contributing to the national economy."
"MOTHER'S DAY SHOPPING IS GENERALLY DONE WITH CARDS"
Emphasizing that card-based shopping has increased even more on special occasions in recent years, Palandöken said, "Our citizens now generally prefer cards for shopping. Some do not like carrying cash. Some are attracted by the gift points offered, but installment purchases make up the largest share.
Especially on special days like Mother's Day, shopping done with cards increases by 35 percent. Cards are also generally used for spending on websites. Therefore, our citizens who have to shop with cards on websites on this special day should prefer sites they know and applications that secure card information to avoid creating security vulnerabilities."
