Testimony of Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened a public prosecutor, emerges: 'There is nothing I can do'

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Anti-Financial Crimes Branch, continuing their work within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and known to the public as the 'Newborn Gang', detained 5 doctors, 5 healthcare workers, 3 nurses, and 1 civilian in an operation on December 4, determining that they acted in concert with gang leader Fırat Sarı.

A summary of proceedings has been prepared for the 18 suspects identified within the scope of the ongoing investigation. In the prepared document, a prison sentence of 20 to 25 years was requested for Doctor Dursun Eryılmaz for the crime of 'intentional killing by negligent conduct'.

On the other hand, a prison sentence of 2 to 4 years was requested for Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin in his office, for the crime of 'aiding an organization established to commit crimes'. It was also noted in the document that the investigation regarding the threat against the prosecutor in his office is continuing separately. For nurse Serenay Şenkalaycı, a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years was requested for the crime of 'forgery of official documents', and 25 to 43 years and 7 months for the crime of 'intentional killing by negligent conduct in a chain manner'. Prison sentences of varying lengths were requested for the other 15 suspects for various crimes.

TESTIMONY EMERGES

Meanwhile, the testimony of Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened the public prosecutor in his office, has emerged in the prepared document.

"I APOLOGIZE FOR MY TONE BEING MISUNDERSTOOD"

In his testimony, Zengin said, "I apologize to the Turkish nation and the Turkish state for my tone being misunderstood. I did not go to my prosecutor with the intention of threatening him. I only shared my predictions with him. I introduce myself to everyone as a consultant; I correct those who call me an undersecretary by saying I am a consultant. However, they continue to call me an undersecretary. There is nothing I can do about that."

When asked, "How did you become privy to so much information about the public prosecutor?", Mustafa Kemal Zengin replied, "I only know as much as Yavuz Çelik told me. The other things I said were entirely due to my loose tongue. The situation reached this point because I exaggerated the incident a bit. I have nothing else to add."

PROSECUTORIAL ASSESSMENT EMERGES

On the other hand, the assessment made regarding Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened the public prosecutor in his office, has emerged in the prepared document.

The document stated that Mustafa Kemal Zengin held a meeting with Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin in his office to secure the release of Tuğçe Toptemel and made statements that reached the level of threats.

Furthermore, according to the HTS records included in the document, it was stated that Mustafa Kemal Zengin had contact 138 times with Ahmet Atilla Yılmaz, the Chief Physician of Beylikdüzü Medilife Hospital, and 110 times with Yavuz Ç., the stepfather of the gang member Tuğçe Toptemel, whose release was sought. The document stated that Zengin had been in contact with Yavuz Ç. and Beylikdüzü Medilife Hospital Manager Ahmet Atilla Yılmaz long before the act of threatening the case prosecutor, and that his contact did not only begin just before the threat.

"HE TRIED TO SECURE A RELEASE BY THREATENING"

It was stated in the document that suspect Zengin tried to secure the release of an individual arrested within the scope of the criminal organization investigation by threatening the case prosecutor, while knowing of the organization's existence. It was explained in the document that Mustafa Kemal Zengin's action in this context was evaluated as aiding the organization, and that the investigation regarding the act of threatening is continuing separately.
