Testimony of Silar Altaş, brother of the fugitive suspect in the Gülistan Doku case: He was saying that some things were being erased

‘Did the girl get pregnant?' I asked, ‘Yes' he said. ‘Didn't she want to have an abortion?' I asked, ‘Yes' he said. He was always giving evasive answers. According to what he told, Türkay said, ‘The girl got pregnant, and I shot her in the head.' He repeated this ‘I shot her in the head' expression several times.

Most likely, he fired a single bullet. Türkay was describing the incident briefly as follows: ‘I shot someone in the head.' It is even said that he showed the gun to others beforehand. Türkay's gun was a pistol.

I think I saw that gun too. He showed it to me in the car. His car was a BMW 420, a color between dark blue and black. He was putting the gun in the glove compartment. He was also giving the car to Umut. They were constantly traveling with vehicles. In fact, most of the time they were stealing cars and bringing them; that was generally what they did. If I have the slightest lie, may God damn me," he said.

Stating that he is one hundred percent sure that the person Mustafa Türkay Sonel said "I shot someone in the head" about is Gülistan Doku, Altaş said, "If you ask what the probability of this girl being Gülistan is, I think it is one hundred percent. I also want that if my brother has the slightest involvement in this, it should come to light. I was very angry with him. ‘What did you do Umut, did you kill her?' I said. He said this to me: ‘Brother, he told me this. I was scared. I was scared of a man who had killed someone. That's why I couldn't speak up.' He might have also been scared because he thought the governor was a bad person," he said.

Mentioning the conversations between the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel and his brother Umut Altaş, Silar Altaş noted the following:

"I said to Umut: ‘Look, so many things have happened, there is such a serious allegation in the middle. This man is involved in this business.' Because he was saying that some things were being erased, being removed.

Once he told me this: ‘I went to his house in Istanbul' he said. ‘One day his father came out of nowhere and kissed me on the forehead. Even though he is a person who doesn't even look at my face normally, it caught my attention when he came and acted like this' he said. His father is the governor. He said this incident happened at a time when Umut went to Türkay's house in Istanbul. They must have met either in Istanbul or in Tunceli.

I pressed Umut. ‘Tell me clearly whatever happened. Is there a different situation regarding his father? Does he know about anything?' I kept asking. Actually, it was being talked about that the incident would be blamed on Zeynal. But when Zeynal returned, it was as if the direction turned to someone else. According to us, the person who could do this, who could hide so many things, was clear."

Altaş said, "According to what Umut told me; Türkay wanted to have an abortion because the girl got pregnant. When the girl did not accept, a problem arose between them. Türkay might have shot the girl because he was afraid due to his connections. The fact that his father was a governor might have increased this fear.

Because according to what Umut told, Türkay was someone who was afraid of everything. I asked Umut, ‘Didn't you ever question this? Didn't you ever press him on what the truth of this matter is?' ‘Brother, I was very scared at that time' he said. According to what Umut told, Türkay said, ‘I shot a girl. She got pregnant, she didn't want to have an abortion. We argued.'

He specifically used the expression ‘I shot her in the head.' Umut also reacted to this, they had a short argument between them but then they closed the subject. Because he was afraid, thinking ‘Someone who kills someone can also harm me.' I am aware that Umut needs to speak. Later my uncle came. ‘The Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Justice are involved, no one should be afraid of anything anymore, tell whatever you know' he said. From that point on, we as a family stopped being afraid," he said.

Conveying what he knows about Governor Sonel's bodyguards, Altaş said, "Many people have been involved in this incident. The incident is big; it is not something that can be covered up easily. We are aware of this. We are really not afraid anymore, we have passed the fear stage. Because the issue has exceeded us too. Whatever happens to us from now on, let it happen. After all, the girl's family has been suffering great pain for months, for years. The incident is no longer just theirs, it has become something much bigger. The only name that comes to my mind right now is ‘Sütlü Bey'. I only know him because he is a governor's bodyguard.

When I talked to Umut, I asked him this: ‘Who could have been involved in this, how could it have happened?' Does he have a bodyguard? He has, it is possible. But who is he, what is he, we don't know. ‘Who took this girl, who buried her, who hid her? How did this girl go missing for months?' I asked. Umut said ‘I don't know, brother'. ‘Could it be a bodyguard?' I said, ‘It could be' he said. I heard the name Şükrü as a bodyguard. I also heard the name Erdoğan. These people; Umut, Türkay and the bodyguard, were constantly hanging out together. I even heard that they had a house, but I don't know where it is. It was only mentioned that there was a house," he said.

Explaining that the person who talked with Umut's phone was Türkay Sonel, Altaş said, "When asked whose name the house is in; I heard the names İlker, Uğurcan and Ercan Ç. These were in the same friend group, they were spending time together. Later, after a while, their paths separated. When Umut turned 19, that is, about 1-2 years after the incident, they fell out. He explained the letter issue as follows: Türkay took the letter and left it. It is said that Türkay, who is the governor's son, did this. I don't know exactly where he left it. As far as I understand, it is said that it was left to the girl's sister, at least it is mentioned in the news this way. When I heard about this issue, I reacted very harshly to Umut. ‘How can you give your phone?' I said. He said ‘It's not me.' ‘Türkay talked' he replied. ‘Why are you giving your phone, don't you know what was talked about?' I asked. I think that if he already knew what was talked about and told it, it would be a situation that would lead directly to prison," he said.

Emphasizing that as a family they asked Umut about these events, Altaş said, "Umut says he doesn't know the details of the incident exactly. He only conveys that Türkay told him in the car ‘I shot someone.' He says he spoke in the form of ‘A girl got pregnant, she didn't want to have an abortion, so I shot her.' He doesn't know clearly whether he brought the gun or showed it or not. We as a family questioned Umut. ‘Don't you know who this man hangs out with? How long has this girl been missing, didn't you ever think about these? You gave your phone, you went somewhere, you left it' we pressed him. Regarding the letter, he also explained this: Türkay dropped Umut off somewhere and said ‘Go, leave this.' Umut left the letter and returned. Later Türkay came and picked him up again. It is not clear whether this situation was done to frame Umut, or why such a path was followed. Umut said the same thing; he stated that it was written in a similar way in the letter," he said.
