Testimony of the chef who first saw the fire in Kartalkaya emerges: Did the alarms and water sprinklers fail to work?

The testimony of chef Faysal Yaver, who was in the kitchen on the 4th floor of the hotel during the fire, has been added to the case file. According to Yaver's statement to the Prosecutor's Office, the water sprinklers and alarms intended for fire suppression in the hotel did not work when the fire started. Chef Yaver added that they tried to wake people up through their own efforts.

78 people lost their lives in the fire that occurred 10 days ago at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center. 19 of the 28 people detained in connection with the incident have been arrested.

Stating that he was one of the first to notice the fire and that the fire alarm and suppression systems did not work, chef Yaver used the following expressions:

''In the time between seeing the fire and getting outside, I did not come across a fire extinguisher. Therefore, I did not have the chance to intervene with an extinguisher. Yusuf Usta went to the reception floor. Other friends were trying to call the authorities by phone. From the moment I saw the fire until I got outside, no fire alarm, warning mechanical sound, or water sprinkler for suppression worked. We only tried to wake people up with our own voices and means.''

Yaver stated that he did his best for the guests and employees staying at the hotel during the fire, and expressed the following:

''My only duty is to prepare breakfast from night until morning. I have no faulty action in this incident. I am just one of those who saw the fire first. We were already the ones who started shouting first. I tried to help the staff working at the hotel and the people staying there as much as I could.''

Within the scope of the investigation into the tragedy, the allegations that the hotel's fire safety measures were inadequate were being focused on. Chef Yaver's testimony has been recorded as an important detail regarding the failure of the fire alarm and suppression systems.

While the judicial process continues for the 19 people arrested in connection with the incident, investigations into the cause of the fire and the hotel's security deficiencies are ongoing.
