That school's name has been changed! It had been named after Esat Oktay Yıldıran

Following public backlash, the name of the Belenbaşı Primary School in the Belenbaşı village of İzmir's Buca district—which had been renamed after Esat Oktay Yıldıran, an officer known for his role at Diyarbakır Prison following the September 12 coup—has been changed back to Belenbaşı Primary School.

İzmir's Buca district's Belenbaşı Primary School had been named after Esat Oktay Yıldıran, an officer known for the torture carried out at Diyarbakır Prison following the September 12 coup. However, following the backlash, the school's name was changed once again to Belenbaşı Primary School.

Eğitim Sen İzmir Branch No. 5 President Savaş Candemir stated, "As a result of the statements we have made over the past two days and public support, the name of the torturer Esat Oktay Yıldıran has been removed from the school. This morning, the school signs were changed and it was made Belenbaşı Primary School again. We will continue to follow this matter and will file a criminal complaint against the officials responsible for naming the school after Esat Oktay Yıldıran."
