AFAD updated the Turkey Earthquake Hazard Map and published it on March 18, 2018; the map entered into force on January 1, 2019.
The map was also approved by the National Earthquake Research Program (UDAP) and the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK). The provinces in Turkey's earthquake hazard ranking, according to risk zones, are as follows:
FIRST-DEGREE EARTHQUAKE RISK PROVINCES
İzmir, Balıkesir, Manisa, Muğla, Aydın, Denizli, Isparta, Uşak, Bursa, Bilecik, Yalova, Sakarya, Düzce, Kocaeli, Kırşehir, Bolu, Karabük, Hatay, Bartın, Çankırı, Tokat, Amasya, Çanakkale, Erzincan, Tunceli, Bingöl, Muş, Hakkari, Osmaniye, Kırıkkale, and Siirt.
SECOND-DEGREE EARTHQUAKE RISK PROVINCES
Primarily Tekirdağ, Istanbul (1st and 2nd Zone), Bitlis, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Adıyaman, and Şırnak, as well as Zonguldak, Tekirdağ, Afyon, Samsun, Antalya, Erzurum, Kars, Ardahan, Batman, Iğdır, Elazığ, Diyarbakır, Adana, Eskişehir, Malatya, Kütahya, Çankırı, Uşak, Ağrı, and Çorum.
