The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has released its 2023 Earnings Structure Statistics report. According to the report, the average monthly gross earnings per person were 26,402 TL.
While male wage earners received an average monthly gross wage-salary of 24,011 TL, women received 23,344 TL in gross wage-salary. In other words, the wage gap between men and women performing the same job persists.
According to the TURKSTAT report, the wage gap between men and women doing the same job continues. Across all occupational groups, the gap, which favors men, was most pronounced in agriculture.
Some of the data included in the report are as follows:
• The average monthly gross earnings for male wage earners were 26,638 TL, while for women, it was 25,931 TL.
• The average monthly hours worked for men were 205, while for women, it was 190 hours.
• The average annual gross earnings were 305,784 TL. This figure was 314,242 TL for men and 289,720 TL for women.
• The highest earnings were recorded in the financial and insurance activities sector.
• Skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers earned the lowest income.
• The highest average annual gross earnings were obtained by those working in the managers occupational group, with 538,530 TL.
• This occupational group was followed by professionals with 409,767 TL.
• The wage or earnings gap between men and women favored men across all education levels.
• The occupational groups with the highest earnings gap between men and women were craft and related trades workers at 23.5% and technicians, associate professionals at 22.9%.
• The occupational groups with the highest wage gap between men and women were professionals at 21.1%, plant and machine operators and assemblers at 20.3%, and craft and related trades workers at the same rate. The groups with the lowest gap were managers at 1.8% and elementary occupations at 6.4%.
