The 8th Edremit Book Fair, organized by the Edremit Municipality under the theme “Books in the Shadow of the Immortal Tree,” has begun at the Altınkum Fairgrounds. As part of the fair program, a panel titled “From Local to Power” was held.

The panel, moderated by Fair Coordinator Sinan Karahan, was attended by Gömeç Mayor Melih Bağcı, Edremit Mayor Mehmet Ertaş, and Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who has been removed from his post. During the panel, evaluations were made on urban sociology and local government experiences.

In the final part of the panel, after the speaking times were exceeded, the fair's guest of honor, Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör, took the stage. Şengör, whose own talk program was scheduled to begin after the panel, waited on stage for a while as Ahmet Özer continued his speech.

Şengör then pointed to the watch on his wrist and warned him that “the time is up.”

Following this intervention, Özer concluded his speech shortly after and left the stage.

With the conclusion of the panel, the program moved on to Celal Şengör’s talk titled “Memories with İlber Hoca,” in accordance with the fair schedule.
