The multimedia screen riddle... Which ones are banned, which ones are not?

The new traffic regulation, which was accepted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and will come into effect on April 1, has led to misunderstandings and misinformation among drivers. In particular, the restrictions brought on APP (Vehicle Parking System) license plates and modified equipment have created the perception that multimedia screens are also completely banned. Fearing fines, many drivers have flocked to auto repair shops to have their multimedia systems removed. However, industry representatives have informed vehicle owners by stating that not every screen is prohibited.

WHICH SCREENS FALL UNDER THE SCOPE OF THE BAN?

The purpose of the new regulation is to increase driving safety and not obstruct the driver's field of vision. In this context, the systems that fall under the scope of the ban are as follows:

Screens that Obstruct Vision: Any type of screen mounted on the dashboard afterward that blocks the driver's windshield.

Portable Devices: Portable multimedia devices that are used by plugging into the cigarette lighter socket and are not integrated with the vehicle console.

ORIGINAL DESIGNS ARE NOT BANNED

Industry representatives emphasized that screens in the original design of vehicles are not within the scope of the ban. If the screen is mounted in the vehicle's original radio slot, is integrated with the console, and does not threaten driving safety, it will not be subject to any penal action. In other words, there is no need to remove screens that are of original dimensions and do not obstruct the field of vision.

RISK OF FINES AND TRAFFIC BAN

Various sanctions will be applied to vehicle owners who do not comply with the new regulation as of April 1.

21 Thousand TL Fine: An administrative fine of 21 thousand TL will be imposed on drivers who use screens that are contrary to the legislation.

Traffic Ban: Vehicles that violate the rule will be banned from traffic for 30 days.
