The countdown has begun for the long-awaited snowfall in Istanbul. While January passed with temperatures above seasonal norms, increasing the longing for snow among Istanbul residents, Meteorology Advisor Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen has announced the date for the expected cold wave.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BY 10 DEGREES AT ONCE
CNN TÜRK Meteorology Advisor Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen stated that while warm weather will continue to be effective until the weekend, temperatures will drop rapidly starting from February 5. Expressing that winter conditions will be effective across a large part of the country from this date onwards, Şen emphasized that the probability of snowfall has increased in many cities, including Istanbul.
SNOW IS COMING TO THE EAST OF ISTANBUL
Stating that the cold wave will be particularly effective between February 5 and 10, Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen said that snowfall could be seen in the eastern parts of the Marmara Region and the higher elevations of Istanbul.
While heavy snowfall is expected throughout the Black Sea region, it is predicted that temperatures will drop sharply in the Central Anatolia Region and that snowfall will occur over a wide area. In the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions, heavy snowfall is expected, particularly in the eastern parts.
Stating that temperatures will drop by 10 degrees at once in the coming days, Şen warned citizens to be cautious against the cold weather and potential snowfall.
