The person detained in the Narin Güran investigation has been identified: The young girl's brother

Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Selçuk Yıldırım stated that they are very close to a result, saying, "We have important evidence in our hands, we will find her." Meanwhile, another child's slipper was found in an area 2 kilometers away from the neighborhood. The family stated that the size of the slipper was different from Narin's. 

Search efforts, which were initiated by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, AFAD, the Provincial Security Directorate, the Provincial Health Directorate, Dicle University, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, and district municipality fire departments after the family reported to the authorities that they had not heard from Narin Güran around 15:00 on August 21 in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood, are continuing on their 8th day.

THE PERSON IN CUSTODY TURNS OUT TO BE HER BROTHER

It was learned that the suspect detained within the scope of the investigation launched into the incident is her brother, E.G. (18). It was learned that E.G., who was determined to have bite marks on his arms, was referred to the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine and will be brought back to Diyarbakır after the examination is completed.

With the support of volunteers, searches involving 1710 personnel so far have been carried out within and around the neighborhood.

Search and rescue teams affiliated with the Gendarmerie and AFAD, along with other teams, searched the surroundings of the neighborhood, rocky areas, streams and reed beds, fields, as well as abandoned areas, empty houses, barns, haylofts, and house gardens within the neighborhood.

ANOTHER SLIPPER FOUND; SIZE DID NOT MATCH

The work initiated by the teams yesterday evening in the Eğertutmaz Stream, located approximately 2 kilometers from the neighborhood, with the support of heavy machinery, continued today.

During the searches, locals who noticed a slipper being carried by the current in the stream notified the gendarmerie.

The teams retrieved the slipper from the water and informed the family of the situation. Based on the statement of the Güran family, it was determined that the slipper did not belong to Narin.

"SEARCHES WERE CONDUCTED IN 47 HOUSES AND 22 ABANDONED BUILDINGS"

Speaking at the operations center established at Tavşantepe Primary School on the 8th day of the search efforts, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Selçuk Yıldırım stated that the search efforts are continuing.

Yıldırım said, "As of now, a total of 1710 people from 7 institutions, including 1030 from our Provincial Gendarmerie Command, 240 from AFAD, 54 from the Provincial Security Directorate, 25 from the fire department, 48 from the Provincial Health Directorate, 53 from metropolitan and district municipalities, 80 from Dicle University, and 180 volunteers, are continuing the search efforts for our Narin. 9 dog units, 115 vehicles, 2 helicopters, and 48 drones have been deployed.

An area of 55 square kilometers on land has been searched, and 5 streams, 3 ponds, 18 water wells, and 24 kilometers of water channels have been searched by a total of 24 personnel, including Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue teams, Dicle University, and AFAD divers. So far, 12 thousand 565 vehicles and 32 thousand 952 individuals have been questioned by our gendarmerie. Searches have been conducted in 47 houses and 22 abandoned buildings, 44 of which are in the gendarmerie zone and 3 in the police zone. 16 license plate recognition system (PTS) points and 78 cameras have been examined, the statements of 66 individuals, 8 of whom are suspects and 58 of whom are witnesses, have been taken, and 1 person has been detained. Meals for 750 people have been distributed by the Red Crescent and AFAD."

"THE CIRCLE HAS NARROWED SIGNIFICANTLY"

Yıldırım continued his words as follows:

"Dear friends, our state has used all its resources for our Narin and will continue to do so. We will reach our Narin in a short time. From the crime scene investigation to our criminal teams, they have addressed the most subtle and sensitive issues and have conducted the necessary examinations down to the smallest evidence. More than 1000 commandos from 17 districts of Diyarbakır are currently continuing search activities in the region for the second and third time. The existing evidence has been sent to places where many pieces of evidence are examined, including the Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine, Istanbul Forensic Medicine, and Van Criminal Department. Let our nation be sure that our state will hopefully find Narin in a very short time.

Of course, many tips are coming in during this process. Whether they are well-founded or unfounded, we are following up on every kind of tip. The circle has narrowed significantly right now. The capabilities of the Gendarmerie General Command, including underground imaging devices, are being used. Do not worry, our wish and intention is to reach this girl of ours safe and sound. I assess that very little time remains.

I hope to give the good news about our Narin here in a very short time. We have evidence and statements in our hands. We have recorded Narin's movements and activities in the village not hour by hour, but minute by minute. We are following up on this evidence, and we are very close to a result. Hopefully, we will get the result soon."

MINISTER TUNÇ: 1 PERSON IN CUSTODY

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a new statement regarding the matter. 

Stating that 1 person is in custody, Tunç noted the following:

"The investigation initiated by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the disappearance of our 8-year-old child Narin Güran in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's central district is being carried out in a multi-faceted manner.

Currently, 1 person is in custody within the scope of the investigation.

Every detail is being carefully examined to clarify the incident, and the process of taking statements continues in the meticulously conducted investigation. Our hope is that our child Narin is found safe and sound as soon as possible."
