Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy is a partner in a company whose hotel project, located within a 2nd-degree protected area, has been cancelled five times; the final decision was left to the Review and Evaluation Commission. Treasury-owned land in the region had been granted to Ersoy's company.
If the project is approved following the commission's decision, construction will begin in an area that includes a 2nd-degree natural protected area, a 3rd-degree archaeological site, a Hellenistic Tower structure with the status of an immovable cultural asset, and a registered monument protection zone. There are also protected trees in the region.
CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES DESPITE THE BAN
The construction ban implemented in tourist resorts in Muğla began as of May 15, 2024.
Since the period between May 15 and October 15 is considered the summer season, construction is prohibited in Bodrum during these dates.
However, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy's hotel construction continues.
