The reason for İmamoğlu not being arrested for 'terrorism' has been revealed! 'There is strong suspicion, but...'

It has been decided that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested on corruption charges, will be released regarding the 'terrorism' accusation.

The reason for İmamoğlu not being arrested for terrorism has emerged. In the decision by the Istanbul Criminal Court of Peace, it was stated that since it had already been decided to arrest İmamoğlu within the scope of the investigation conducted on corruption allegations, there was no need for the arrest measure at this stage, even though there was strong suspicion of a crime.

The court's decision included the following statements:

“Although the suspect Ekrem İmamoğlu was referred to our court with a request for arrest for the crime of aiding an armed terrorist organization, and despite the existence of strong suspicion of a crime in accordance with the MASAK reports, witness statements, HTS reports, law enforcement records, and the entire scope of the file, it is understood that there is no need for the arrest measure at this stage as it was decided to arrest him for the crimes of unlawfully recording personal data, accepting bribes, rigging tenders of public institutions and organizations, and establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes within the scope of the investigation numbered 2024/228233 conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in accordance with our court's decision dated 23.03.2025 and numbered 2025/347 inquiry; therefore, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's request for arrest is rejected.”

CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE TO APPEAL

On the other hand, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will appeal the decision to release İmamoğlu from the terrorism investigation.
