Writer Ergün Poyraz, who spent exactly 7 years in prison during the Ergenekon conspiracy, has now been arrested on charges of "unlawfully obtaining and disseminating personal data" following a complaint by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu. His lawyer, Hüseyin Buzoğlu, announced that Poyraz has not been given his medication, including insulin which must be taken 4 times a day, since yesterday. Pointing out that the same incident occurred in 2007, Attorney Buzoğlu said, "It is seen that the will that resulted in the deliberate and intentional attempt on Ergün Poyraz's life approximately 18 years ago still maintains its validity today."

Ergün Poyraz, who was arrested in Aydın yesterday due to a post regarding a photo of a house allegedly belonging to Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, stated during his interrogation at the police station, the prosecutor's office, and the criminal judgeship of peace that the post he shared belonged to someone else and that others had shared it as well, saying:

"There is no information disclosed by me for the first time. The reason I shared the post is that I know the building was built with illicit money. She had this building constructed by usurping the rights of the Aydın public from the share of the municipality's income and revenue. The house and its outbuildings, which are claimed to belong to the complainant, have been cited and published by others besides me. There are judicial investigations between the complainant and me stemming from news and comments I have made in the past."

Attorney Ramazan Tülü, who attended Poyraz's interrogation, also stated that the detention decision was unlawful, that the term "haramzâde" (illegitimate/ill-gotten) used by his client did not constitute a crime, and that he made the post for the public interest.

However, the Aydın 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace decided to arrest Ergün Poyraz on the grounds that "there is concrete evidence showing the existence of strong suspicion of the crime he is accused of and that there is a flight risk."

''THE HOSTILITY HAS NOT ENDED''

Hüseyin Buzoğlu, who has served as Ergün Poyraz's lawyer since the Ergenekon conspiracy process, pointed out that Poyraz was the third person to make the post cited as the reason for the arrest, and that dozens of people shared it afterward, yet no action was taken against them. He emphasized that the arrest of only Ergün Poyraz reveals that the hostility toward his client stemming from the political power has not changed for years.

While Attorney Buzoğlu announced that Poyraz has not been given his medication, including insulin which must be taken 4 times a day, for two days, he recalled the following historical event:

"In the Ergenekon spiral, where he was held captive for 7 years by the dirty alliance formed by the political power and the components of the Fetullah Gülen Terrorist Organization, and released with serious health problems, Ergün Poyraz was not given his medication at Kandıra Prison; it was only after we sent a notary warning in 2007 that his medication was provided. The fact that the will that resulted in the deliberate and intentional attempt on Ergün Poyraz's life under the control of the political power approximately 18 years ago still maintains its validity today should be considered with importance in the context of showing that the will of the dirty alliance is being continued with an unending hostility toward Ergün Poyraz and that the process of unlawfulness experienced in our country for months will be developed to cover all dissidents. It is important that social sensitivity be shown for the protection of the life of Ergün Poyraz, who has dedicated his life to the protection of our citizens' rights and the secular, unitary unity of our country."
