The 'SSI debt' controversy between CHP and AKP grows: Hamza Dağ refutes Özgür Özel

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement at his party's group meeting, addressed CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, saying, "If you want to be of benefit to retirees, give the instruction for your municipalities to pay their accumulated debts to the Social Security Institution (SSI). Our Ministry of Treasury and Finance will begin collecting the municipalities' debts at the source."

Responding to Erdoğan, CHP leader Özel had stated, "The most indebted municipalities are the ones we have newly taken over from the AKP. The most indebted is Bursa Metropolitan, then Sakarya, then Ordu, then Balıkesir, then Denizli. Look, the 5 most indebted municipalities, all 5 are municipalities we took over from the AKP. Now they are trying to deduct from us the money they did not pay themselves."

AKP Deputy Chairman Hamza Dağ responded to CHP leader Özgür Özel with a post on his social media account.

Refuting Özel, Dağ claimed that the municipalities with the highest debt to the SSI are, in order, Ankara, İzmir, İstanbul, Adana, and Şişli municipalities. Dağ stated, "All of these 5 municipalities were also managed by the CHP in the previous term. The AK Party has almost never managed three of them."

Today, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that the 5 municipalities with the highest SSI premium debt are the ones they took over from the AK Party.

However, the truth of the matter is not as Mr. Özgür Özel stated. The 5 municipalities with the most debt to the SSI are, in order:

-Ankara

-İzmir

-İstanbul

-Adana 

-Şişli Municipality 

as such.

All of these 5 municipalities were also managed by the CHP in the previous term. The AK Party has almost never managed three of them.

Those who act with the sole purpose of using our retired citizens as material for politics, if they want to contribute to the state and the nation, the first thing they must do is pay their debts to the SSI.

Moreover, this situation is not a practice that applies only to CHP municipalities. It applies to all municipalities in Turkey. Just as the private sector and public institutions are obligated to pay their SSI debts, municipalities are likewise obligated to pay these debts.

Mr. Özel should stop the demagoguery and giving futile speeches "to be striking," just like in the "a tractor for every farmer" lie, and should give the instruction to his mayors—if he has the power—to pay these debts immediately.
