During an operation against ISIS in Yalova, 3 police officers were martyred and 6 terrorists were neutralized. Details of the operation conducted against the terrorist organization ISIS in the İsmetpaşa neighborhood of Yalova have become clear. During the raid carried out by Counter-Terrorism teams in the night hours, three police officers were martyred in a clash where women and children were used as human shields.
THE OPERATION BEGAN DURING THE NIGHT
In the operation launched yesterday at 02:15, fire was opened on police teams entering the house where ISIS members were staying. Because the terrorists used women and children as human shields, the operation was conducted in a controlled manner. Police Special Operations teams from Bursa and gendarmerie commandos also supported the efforts. It was reported that the clashes ended at 09:40.
3 POLICE OFFICERS MARTYRED, 9 SECURITY PERSONNEL WOUNDED
During the operation, police officers Yasin Koçyiğit, Turgut Külünk, and İlker Pehlivan were martyred. 8 police officers and 1 watchman were wounded in the clashes. 5 women and 6 children found in the house were rescued alive.
6 ISIS MEMBERS KILLED
As a result of the intervention by security forces, 6 ISIS members, all of whom were Turkish citizens, were killed. It was learned that two of the terrorists killed in the operation were individuals previously known to security units.
TWO NAMES HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED PREVIOUSLY
It was stated that the names of the two ISIS members previously identified by the Yalova Police were Zafer Umutlu and Haşim Sordabak. It was reported that both individuals' connections to the organization were present in police records.
In the examinations conducted, it was determined that the killed terrorists were in direct contact with ISIS. It was alleged that the organization's leader, Amer Onay, codenamed "Molla Ensarullah," had created a two-stage plan for Turkey. It was claimed that the first stage of this plan aimed to open mosques, and the second stage aimed to establish a jihadist group for assassinations and actions.
THE INDIVIDUAL WHO MARTYRED THE POLICE OFFICERS HAD BEEN ACQUITTED
It emerged that Zafer Umutlu, who was killed in the operation, was one of the 18 defendants tried in the ISIS-Khorasan case. It was reported that the banned book "Jihad & Martyrdom" was seized at the home of Umutlu, born in 1999.
REMARKABLE WORDS IN HIS STATEMENT
It was noted that Umutlu, who said in his police statement that he only performed Friday prayers at the "Ahlak Sünnet Dergisi" office and did not pray behind Diyanet imams, made statements describing the system as "infidel."
Journalist İsmail Saymaz reported that Umutlu said in his statement, "President Erdoğan does not govern the state according to Islamic rules, I see him as an infidel, and loyalty to Atatürk and the secular system is blasphemy."
As a result of the trial on October 21, 2025, Zafer Umutlu and 14 other defendants were acquitted of the charge of "membership in an armed terrorist organization." The reasoned decision regarding Umutlu, who was not arrested, was served on the day of the operation in which the police officers were martyred. It was reported that the notification was posted on his door because he could not be found at his address.
