The 'waste' era at the Diyanet continues: The money spent on a 3-day meeting in Saudi Arabia is staggering

The era of waste has continued under Safi Arpaguş, who replaced Ali Erbaş at the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), an institution that has surpassed the budgets of many ministries with its luxury spending.

According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün newspaper; it was stated that the Diyanet management once again chose a five-star hotel for a meeting with Religious Services Attachés and Advisors who hold "Diplomat" status. The location for the meeting in question was Saudi Arabia.

It was stated that in addition to the President of Religious Affairs Safi Arpaguş, the meeting, which was attended by 50 people, included a vice president, two general managers, department heads, the chief of staff, a presidential advisor, experts, and protocol, press, and security teams.

"DO NOT SHARE PHOTOS" WARNING

It was alleged that a warning stating, "Do not share a single photo," was issued regarding the meeting held with Religious Services Advisors and Attachés. The meeting, which took place at the five-star Maden Hotel in Medina, was described with the comment: "Safi Arpaguş has taken the waste of the Erbaş era a step further by holding meetings abroad and in secret."

COST OF 5 MILLION TL

It was claimed that the total cost, including airfare, transportation, five-star hotel accommodations, and daily allowances for the approximately fifty people who attended the meeting, reached 5 million TL.

Presidential sources, who argued that bringing Diyanet representatives together in another country was a major scandal, used the following expressions:

"Such meetings are held in Ankara. Diplomats using black passports are not taken to a foreign country to hold a meeting. If the meeting is not important, you do not undertake such an expense for such a task, or you hold it online. If it is very important, it is held at the presidency.
