Berna Osmanoğlu, one of the descendants of the Ottoman dynasty living in Turkey, entered into marriage with a ceremony held in Istanbul. The ceremony, which took place at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Beykoz Social Facility, was attended by the couple's parents, relatives, and close friends, as well as famous figures. The speech targeting Atatürk by former Welfare Party MP Şevki Yılmaz, who was a witness at the ceremony also attended by anti-Atatürk imam Halil Konakcı, sparked public outrage.

SHARIA-ADVOCATING IMAM ALSO AT THE WEDDING

Among the guests at the ceremony were Galatasaray University faculty member Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, anti-Atatürk and anti-Republic Sharia-advocating imam Halil Konakcı, Istanbul Topkapı University faculty member Dr. İbrahim Pazan, Star newspaper columnist Nuh Albayrak, TV program producer and host Pelin Çift, TV programmer Mehmet Fatih Çıtlak, TV programmer and author Mustafa Armağan, historian and author Şafak Tunç, former Welfare Party MP Şevki Yılmaz, and 27th Term AK Party Istanbul MP Fatih Süleyman Denizolgun.

The witnesses for the bride and groom were Galatasaray University faculty member Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, former Welfare Party MP Şevki Yılmaz, and TV programmer, author, and calligrapher Mehmet Fatih Çıtlak.

Yılmaz, who displays his hostility toward Atatürk at every opportunity, targeted the Republic and Atatürk at the ceremony with the following words:

“I take pride in the Ottoman Empire. I also curse the ignoble ones who exiled the Ottomans. Today, thank God, we are together at the wedding of such a family.”

It was noted that Ortaylı remained silent during Yılmaz's speech.

“THEY SHOWED THEY DESERVED TO BE EXILED”

Reactions to Yılmaz's anti-Atatürk remarks also came from the political sphere. Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ wrote the following on his social media account:

"By saying 'I curse the ignoble ones who exiled the Ottomans,' Şevki Yılmaz has insulted Atatürk and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. If a lawsuit is not immediately filed against this man, it means there are no prosecutors of the Republic left. Şevki, I hope we meet somewhere. I will show you who is noble and who is ignoble. Meanwhile, the Ottoman family holding the wedding has once again shown that they deserved to be exiled by inviting men like this to their wedding."
