The 2025 World University Rankings, published by Times Higher Education (THE), evaluated 2 thousand 92 universities from 115 countries and regions to create the ranking. According to the research, 3 Turkish universities managed to enter the top 400 on the list.
CHINA IS ON THE RISE
The University of Oxford remained at the top of the world rankings for the ninth consecutive year, thanks to its increased engagement with industry and teaching quality. While the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from the US rose to second place, Stanford University fell to sixth place.
While the influence of Chinese universities in the global academic arena is steadily increasing, Australia's top five universities fell in the rankings due to a loss in international outlook and academic reputation. The entry of some universities from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates into the top 200 highlighted the growing role of emerging markets in higher education.
2 THOUSAND 92 UNIVERSITIES ENTERED THE RANKINGS
Within the scope of the WUR 3.0 methodology, which is THE's most comprehensive evaluation model, five main areas were taken into account: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook. In the 2025 rankings, changes in global higher education were analyzed by examining surveys involving more than 93 thousand academics, 18 million research publications, and 157 million citations.
3 UNIVERSITIES FROM TURKEY ARE ON THE LIST
Notably, Koç University, Middle East Technical University (METU), and Sabancı University from Turkey are placed in the 351-400 band, continuing to maintain their competitiveness in the global arena.
