The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has determined that Buket Özgünlü, president of the Yaşama Tutunan Patiler (Paws Clinging to Life) Association, and her family have been involved in suspicious commercial activities using donations. It has emerged that Özgünlü, who introduces herself on social media as the "Dog Guardian," engaged in luxury vehicle trading with donations collected for animal aid and amassed a large fortune.
DONATIONS DID NOT GO TO ANIMALS
Investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) revealed that a large portion of the donations collected under the association's umbrella was not spent on animals. The donations were transferred to the personal expenses and commercial activities of Özgünlü and her family.
In the last two years, exactly 65 vehicles with market values ranging from 600 thousand to 1.5 million liras were bought and sold. The investigations determined that these transactions were carried out with donations collected through the association. It was found that money transfers were made during these transactions with descriptions such as "motorcycle sale" or "vehicle transfer."
FAMILY MEMBERS ALSO INVOLVED
Within the scope of the investigation, it was revealed that Özgünlü's spouse and relatives were linked to the commercial transactions. In particular, a company named Scooterist Motor, owned by Evren Kılıç, the husband of her sister Demet Kılıç, was at the center of many commercial transactions. It was determined that the donations were circulated between different accounts and used for vehicle purchases.
It was determined that the donation money was withdrawn by being disguised as "food aid" and then transferred to the personal accounts of Özgünlü and her family. This money was used for luxury vehicles, real estate, and personal expenses.
A LARGE FORTUNE AMASSED IN A SHORT TIME
Buket Özgünlü was a worker experiencing financial difficulties before founding the association. However, with the establishment of the association, she became wealthy in a short time and began purchasing luxury vehicles and real estate with her family. It was determined that family members acquired high-segment vehicles such as Chery, BMW, Mercedes, and Honda in the last two years.
