These words were not considered a threat: Şirin Payzın reacts sharply to court ruling

Journalist Şirin Payzın announced in a statement on her social media account the decision reached by a court in a case filed regarding a post containing severe language directed at her. Payzın stated that the ruling considers threats and insults against members of the press and women to be within the scope of “freedom of expression.”

Payzın reported that a social media user had sent her a message saying, “We need to eliminate this slut, let’s give her the harshest punishment.” She stated that her lawyers initiated legal proceedings following the message in question.

COURT RULING DRAWS REACTION

According to Payzın’s statement, the court ruled that these expressions could not be considered within the scope of a threat or insult. Stating that the decision reached her today, Payzın said the court informed her that no criminal element was found in the expressions in question.

Şirin Payzın's post is as follows: 

'Some psychopath wrote this to me on social media: “We need to eliminate this slut, let’s give her the harshest punishment.” My lawyers filed a lawsuit. The decision from the court arrived today. Apparently, these words are not considered a threat. They are not an insult either. So, all kinds of threats, insults, and intimidation against us journalists, women, young people, and artists are within the scope of freedom of thought. But if a journalist tries to explain something using a historical example, it starts at 4 years.'
