National Defense University (MSÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Afyoncu made a new statement regarding the lieutenants dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). Afyoncu stated that not only were 5 lieutenants dismissed in the incident in question, but various penalties were also imposed on other lieutenants at the ceremony.

Speaking on a television channel, Afyoncu said, “They asked for permission 7 times and were told no 8 times.” Claiming that the lieutenants “insistently did what they were told not to do,” Afyoncu said the following:

“The problem here is not mentioning Atatürk’s name, but indiscipline. It wasn't just 5 lieutenants who received penalties there. Many lieutenants who participated in that oath received penalties. Politics cannot enter the army. I will not allow this.”
