Following the bombshell remarks by MHP leader Bahçeli, the necessary permissions were obtained, and DEM Party MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder traveled to İmralı to hold a meeting with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

A new statement regarding the meeting has been released by Önder and Buldan. The statement included the phrase, "We are much more hopeful than in previous processes."

The briefing message shared by the DEM Party press office is as follows:

'WE ARE MUCH MORE HOPEFUL THAN IN PREVIOUS PROCESSES'

"We present the briefing from Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder below:

Due to the sensitivity of the process, we will not be able to provide briefings to the press until it reaches a certain level of maturity. This decision does not mean we are hiding anything; on the contrary, it is a requirement of respect for the negotiations we will conduct. However, if we were to say just one sentence, we can say that we are much more hopeful than in previous processes. As a delegation, we will make a comprehensive statement in the new year."

WHAT DID ÖCALAN SAY?

The framework of the thoughts expressed by Abdullah Öcalan during the meeting, which lasted approximately 2 hours in İmralı, was conveyed as follows:

  • Strengthening Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood carries a defining importance for all peoples.

  • It is essential for political circles in Turkey to stay away from narrow calculations and offer constructive and positive contributions. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) will be the most important platform for these contributions.

  • The events in Gaza and Syria have laid bare the intractability of problems deepened by foreign interventions. It was emphasized that work must be carried out with this seriousness.

  • Öcalan stated that he is ready to contribute positively to the new paradigm supported by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The DEM Party stated that Öcalan's proposals and evaluations would be shared with both the state and political circles. In the party's statement, it was emphasized that the call for peace, democracy, and brotherhood is of vital importance for Turkey and the region.
