Private public bus operators in Istanbul decided to stop service with more than 3 thousand vehicles, stating that they had not received their service payments from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) for four months. The Istanbul Chamber of Private Public Bus Operators stated that the 500 million TL payment, which the IMM indicated would be made on May 15, did not take place.
IETT, meanwhile, announced that 35.3 billion TL in support has been provided to private transporters since 2020, and 1.3 billion TL in payments have been made in 2024 alone. While it was announced that the payment system will be restructured on June 1, 2025, Istanbul residents were warned to plan their transportation against possible disruptions.
