Şanlıurfa footage filmed at a Rufai cult lodge has become a major topic of discussion in Turkey. Following the emergence of footage showing cult members piercing 4-5-year-old children with skewers under the guise of a dhikr ritual, the Ministry of Family and Social Services issued a statement.
CHILDREN PLACED UNDER STATE PROTECTION
The Ministry announced that a criminal complaint has been filed against those involved in the incident and that the children have been placed under state protection. Furthermore, it was stated that a request for an access ban on the footage in question has been submitted to the Şanlıurfa Criminal Court of Peace.
The Ministry's statement is as follows:
"The following statement has been deemed necessary regarding the news reports titled 'They pierced 4-5-year-old children with skewers in Şanlıurfa' that appeared in some media outlets and on social media.
Immediately after learning of the incident, our Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate teams took urgent action and arrived at the address where the incident allegedly took place.
A criminal complaint has been filed by our Ministry against the individuals involved in the incident. As a result of the investigations, the children who were the subject of the news and posts have been placed under state protection. Appropriate service models for the children taken under protection are being carried out by our expert staff.
In accordance with the principle of the best interests of the child, a request for an access ban regarding the footage in question has been submitted to the Şanlıurfa Criminal Court of Peace.
As a Ministry, we will be closely following the legal process as an intervening party to ensure that the perpetrators receive the harshest punishment."
