A group that gathered in Şişli to support Deniz Göktaş, who was arrested on charges of "insulting the President" and "denigrating religious values" due to jokes made in his show titled "Dead Sea," was blockaded by police teams.

A group wanting to protest the arrest of comedian Deniz Göktaş was blockaded by police in Şişli. 

Before the event organized by the Federation of Idea Clubs (FKF), which gathered around 8:00 PM to protest Deniz Göktaş's arrest, Maçka Democracy Park and its surroundings were closed off with barricades by police teams.

While those who gathered in the park were effectively placed under a police blockade, a notable decision was also announced by the Şişli District Governor's Office.

PROTEST CANCELED

According to the report in Cumhuriyet; in the letter sent by the District Governor's Office, all open and closed-area events, including marches, press statements, sit-ins, setting up stands, pitching tents, distributing leaflets, and protest actions to be held in squares, avenues, streets, and parks within the district boundaries, were banned for one day starting from July 3, 2026.
