It has emerged that Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu called Denizbank General Manager Hakan Ateş regarding the high-interest, foreign currency-based fund scandal that remains on Turkey's agenda and is known to the public as the Fatih Terim Fund.
According to Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz, “Arda Turan, Emre Belözoğlu, and Muslera requested an appointment from Erdoğan in April. Erdoğan hosted the footballers at the Istanbul Airport guest house.”
"IF THEY WANT, THEY CAN CLOSE IT IN ONE DAY"
Stating that the then-Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, and Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank were also present alongside Erdoğan, Saymaz continued as follows:
“The meeting lasted about half an hour. During the meeting, Erdoğan asked, ‘What is this incident? Where and to whom did you give the money?’ The three footballers explained what they had experienced. After listening, Erdoğan turned to Soylu and said, ‘Look into the matter. Tell Hakan Ateş to solve this. There were other issues as well. They didn't listen to us. Make the necessary warnings. If they want, they can close it in one day.’ Soylu called Ateş after the meeting. It is stated that the traffic between the footballers and Beştepe is still ongoing and that Erdoğan is following the matter.”
