Threat from Israel to Hamas's new leader: Call for rapid elimination

Hamas's selection of its Gaza leader, Yahya Sinwar, to replace Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in the Iranian capital of Tehran, has sparked harsh reactions from Israel. Sinwar was seen as the "mastermind" behind the Al-Aqsa Flood operation carried out on October 7.
Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari made a statement regarding Sinwar, saying, "There is only one place for him, and that is next to Mohammed Deif and the terrorists of October 7. That is the only place we have prepared and planned for him." Hagari stated that Sinwar is on Israel's target list.
It was confirmed on August 1 that Mohammed Deif, the commander-in-chief of Hamas's military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli attack on Khan Yunis on July 13. More than 90 Palestinians living in nearby tents also lost their lives in that attack.
CALL FOR 'RAPID ELIMINATION' FROM FOREIGN MINISTER KATZ
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called for the "rapid elimination" of Sinwar, stating, "The appointment of arch-terrorist Yahya Sinwar as the new leader of Hamas, replacing Ismail Haniyeh, is yet another compelling reason to quickly eliminate him and wipe this vile organization off the face of the earth."
Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson Osama Hamdan stated that Sinwar would continue ceasefire negotiations in exchange for a prisoner swap. Hamdan argued that the problems in the talks were the responsibility of Israel and its ally, the US, rather than any changes within Hamas.
