Lawyer Feyza Altun shared an update regarding the legal process that followed her public disclosure that she had been sexually abused by her cousin when she was 7 years old. Altun reported that with the conclusion of the court process, the two defendants who threatened her with death were sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for the crime of "threat."
Announcing the verdict on her social media account, Altun stated the following:
"My aunt's son N.Ç., who sexually abused me between the ages of 7 and 12 and threatened to kill me years later because I exposed it, and Ö.F.Ç., who participated in his act, were sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison today for threats. It was late, but justice has been served."
"I WILL BE YOUR TORMENT"
Altun described the process she went through in her social media posts with these words:
"During this process, the spineless relatives who knew the events as well as their own names buried their heads in the sand. Some ignored it, some blamed me, and some tried to hinder me. The only real relative who stood by me like a lion was Hüseyin Arslanol. A decent, honorable man. I thank you here once again in front of everyone. Sometimes a single relative is worth more than an entire clan. When you first heard my voice, you told me, 'Let me give you a gun, shoot me.' I told you even then that I would not kill you with a gun. If I didn't disgrace you, it was because you have a daughter today and I didn't want to make your daughter live in the shadow of a rapist father. You are already dead in the eyes of God. I will be your torment, never forget that."
"A VICTORY THAT CAME 27 YEARS LATER"
Sharing what she experienced during her childhood, Altun said:
"I told my mother, she didn't believe me; I told my aunt, she said 'Be quiet, may God forgive him.' I told my uncle, he said 'What did you experience?' I was 7 years old, what could I have experienced? I couldn't tell my father, I was afraid he would kill him and become a murderer. I told my cousins; one said 'He did it to me too,' but when it came to the police, she said 'I don't know.' For years I looked for faults in myself. I was born in '87. I was 12 when I realized it, the year was 1999. I kicked him out the door when he came. I said, 'If you come again, I will kill you,' and he ran off without a peep. This is a victory that came exactly 27 years later. I won."
SHARED A NOTE WITH A CHILDHOOD PHOTO
Altun later published a childhood photo of herself at age 7 and added the following note:
"Me at 7 years old... I love you, Feyza. I will protect you from everyone and I will hold everyone who wronged you accountable one by one."
